Being Mortal

bring mortal

Its another book review, I know, how refreshing!

Being mortal by Atul Gwande is a very ‘disturbing’ book, when I say disturbing, I mean it in a good way. So many times we get engrossed in life’s pettiness and issues which eventually mean nothing. As someone rightly summarized the book “We have come to medicalize aging, frailty, and death, treating them as if they were just one more clinical problem to overcome. However it is not only medicine that is needed in one’s declining years but life–a life with meaning, a life as rich and full as possible under the circumstances. Being Mortal is not only wise and deeply moving, it is an essential and insightful book for our times, as one would expect from Atul Gawande, one of our finest physician writers.” It shakes you to the core, making you realize your own mortality and in process makes you aware of what really matters in the end, its truly a very thought provoking book. Do read it
